Innocence Of Childhood Video Shoot

We had a blast on the first day of the video shoot. The song is my second single of the upcoming Stewed, Screwed, and Tattooed: The Mixtape. We shot the whole first day at the beach in Venice. Thanks to all the moms and dads that were cool about us shooting on the playground around all their kids and said they would keep an eye out for the video.

The video was shot and directed by my good friend Adam Stanzak from Oh Boy Films. He is an up and coming director who is starting to make a name for himself shooting music videos for local underground artists such as VerBs, Alpha MC, Dumbfounded and more. Type in Oh Boy Films in the search field on YouTube to check them out. He also had one of his videos make it into the Venice Film Festival last year. The picture above is him chillin in the radio flyer.

Above is the bike and wagon that Adam rigged up and it worked out great. After a long day of shooting we enjoyed the Cali life skating and playing ball on the boardwalk. All in all it was an amazing day that I will never forget and I can't wait for the video to be done and for you all to see it. It will premiere right here (no date yet, i will keep everyone posted). Til than follow your dreams you never know what could come of it...

Deaf Culture Presents : Artist Profiles - Centrevol

Hard work, dedication, and four individually talented musicians are just some of the great qualities that make the band Centrevol who they are. Let's take some time to meet the boys... left to right on the pic above, starting with the new addition to the band Kai-ping Liu - Guitar, keys, BGV's, the brothers Peter Guinta - Lead Vocals, Guitar, Harmonica, and Jon Guinta - Bass, last but not least the drummer Nasty Nate Burkhardt. In 2006 the three original members (Pete, Jon, and Nate)decided to pack up and move west from Boston, settling in the good 'ol LBC. At this time they released their first Ep called "City of Angles" and started to to tour. Their first apartment was a one bedroom with a triple bunk bed made out of wood scraps and a second hand loft bed. “I envisioned the classic overnight LA rock story in my head, but it was quickly replaced with a temp job on a delivery truck and a 90-minute commute thru LA traffic just to rehearse.” Bassist Jon Guinta smirks, “My slap-bass technique got a lot better then.”

Centrevol started doing a lot of local shows in Long Beach and building a fan base. Later on that year they won the Mai Tai Rumble and the grand prize of $10,000smackaroos that they used to independently finance the "Beggars and Thieves" album(kids take notes). Wyn Davis (Sublime and No Doubt) ended up getting involved in the project to help add the finishing touches. Also that year they went all the way to the National Finals of the Emergenza Festival, in L.A. at the world famous Key Club (My first Centrevol show and one of the best musical nights of my life). Imagine two school busses full of drunk and happy family, friends, and fans pulling up to the Key Club all wearing white Centrevol shirts coming into the venue and taking over, because that's exactly how it went down. "Beggars and Thieves" to this day has not deserved the respect nor exposure it truly deserved. To have an indendently financed project come out that amazing and for the industry to not see it is the true definition of Deaf Culture and what we stand for. The world can be deaf to what's true because the album is 13 tracks of I can't believe they aren't signed. Smooth, melodic, with great layering and Pete's voice and guitar playing matched with the rhythym of Jon and Nate was ingenious. The track title #7 an instrumental with a bass intro that still gives me the chills, really showcases the talent and progression of the band. Click Here to listen to the album.

I could go on for hours about them because I'm a huge fan but I will spare all of you! Quick update on the band: They are currently working on a new EP coming in April, they had huge success at the NACA West and have been touring colleges during the semester. They recently shot a video for the single "Fifth Ave Dream" which you can check out below. A link to their website is on our sidebar under Links. Here are the upcoming shows:
Mar 12 2010 9:00P The District in Tustin (All ages) Tustin, California
Mar 18 2010 8:30P Que Sera Residency w/ One High Five and The Secret 6
April 15th 2010 @ 8:30 pm - Que Sera Residency w/TBA
Keep your eye out for Centrevol and support their music by going to shows and BUYING the album!! Thanks Nate for sending over the bio!
Peace,
Travis

Deaf Culture Presents: Artist Profiles- PWEST Digital

We decided to start doing artist profiles on some of our favorite artists and friends who are upcoming in their respective communities so I decided to kick off the series with my boy PWEST. I met PWEST at a showcase last year and since than keep in contact and we have rocked a few shows together, I was also honored to be his hype man at a show in L.A. when he opened for Mickey Avalon (Lots of memories that night haha, second pic below is from the performance). He is his own man to say the least and in the short time I've known him I've grown to respect him in many ways other than his music. PWEST lives in his own world, goes for what he wants, and has high expectations and goals in music. He is a down to earth cat not trying to impress you with fresh new kicks and some bullshit image, he has a hippy esque spirit and reps The Coast (Laguna Beach) his hometown with pride. His flow is definitely something of its own that takes you on a twisty but steady ride through his tracks and his content goes deeper than the surface appears. The more you listen to his tracks the more you see the substance behind the beat that usually keep your neck moving at a steady pace.

When asked for a bio this is what he submitted..."After the Titanic struck the iceberg, Benjamin Guggenheim's valet fitted him in a life-vest and got him onto the boat deck, but when Mr. Guggenheim saw the scramble aboard the boat deck, he stated, “I am willing to remain and play the man’s game, if there are not enough boats, more for the women and children. No woman shall be left aboard this ship because Ben Guggenheim was a coward.” He then went to his room, dressed in his finest tuxedo, returned to the ship’s bar, began sipping brandy and smoking a cigar, and uttered one of his last statements, “We’ve dressed in our best, and are prepared to go down like gentlemen.” Mr. PWEST is Like Benjamin Guggenheim." He holds a true spirit of an artist well doesn't he!?!

PWEST recently released a short EP called "Airplane Eyes" that is available here just click on the EP title. Must listen to tracks are Move Music, Maintain, and O.F.S. He will be dropping a mixtape later this year called "Roarin Like The Twenties" so be on the look out for that. He also has a show coming up in Arizona flyer posted below. Make sure to follow PWEST and his progress you will be hearing a lot more from him in the future!

Adventures in L.A.

So Marley and I moved out to L.A. last summer and we have been on the go since we've been here and are just now taking the time out to explore the city and find all the cool shit in it! This week we did the tourist thing and went to Hollywood Blvd and had a blast. When we first got there we ran into a dope tattoo parlor that sold supplies, clothes, art and more. The piece above is a 1 of 1 that one of their artists did. Didn't catch his name but we are gonna go back and meet this guy for sure. It was a steal at the price we got it for and they have more we WILL go back for! Wanted to show this dope piece and the bottom is a picture of a tee I bought from the line Lowbrow Art that had about 15 different pieces in there. Big ups to these guys doing their thing!!
